Went boating Friday, was out about 3 hours. Started to cloud up so we decided to quit. Started to head to the ramp and noticed a jet ski screwing
around by the ramp. Pulled up to the ramp see two people standing on the
dock with their crap all over. (they were waiting to ride the jet ski)
Pulled up to the dock and tided up. They just stood there in the way talking
Spanish. They were not about to move there crap or themselves so I could get my boat out.

Unfortunately common courtesy seems to becoming a thing of the past.

For some reason I seem to become very clumsy in situations like that. Once you've tripped over some of their stuff and knocked it into the water a few times (make sure you apologize profusely!) they usually get the idea .....

Some people are really dense and don't get it, and the clumsy act might work but I work with several people (they are of different heritages) and they have a sense of entitlement that is out of this world- screw you, I got mine!!!! It seems to be more common now days.

Not defending these people, but I bet a lot of people do not know that the docks at a ramp are exclusively for people loading and unloading, and therefore assume that all users will share them--which works at some ramps and piers. You might show up at a ramp on a Tuesday morning in the fall and have the whole thing to yourself for fishing; why not use it?
They might consider you inconsiderate for expecting the whole pier to remain vacant all day so you can have your five minutes to launch or load.
Common courtesy and cooperation cuts both ways. Blocking the way with their stuff is wrong, but using the dock to pick up and drop off passengers to ride on their boat is not a big deal to me, unless the boats are stacked up to launch/retrieve.

In Iowa, State Park lakes had NO FISHING FROM DOCK stenciled the boat docks. Most of these have weathered or worn away and they aren't redoing them, probably because people largely ignored the signs anyway.

Most of these lakes have mutiple fishing jetties as well as other excellent shore access mowed right down to the edge. Some also have a wheelchair accessible deck built out over the water. But a lot of folks are sure the best fishing has to be off the dock. I wouldn't mind if they had the wit to get out of the way when I'm bringing my boat in.

You can say that again,,,, and again....

And unfortunately it is not limited to boat launches. Even gas stations, grocery store lines . . . yada yada yada. Seems like anywhere there is more than one person.

Re: People are just dumb!!

One day we were rushing back towards a ramp to get under an empty boat slip during a freak thunderstorm. All of a sudden we have to dodge a skiboat pulling a tube out to open water with lightning all around. Buddy still had the 4 blade "shooter" on his motor and it literally made his boat blow out and almost flip when it caught again. That's one reason you'll never see a 4 blade on mine. At least his has always been terrible for maneuvers and fuel economy. Anyway, people that dumb deserve what they have coming to them. And let's not forget the poor guys that are so whipped that they do as their wife says even if they know they should be doing something else more important. I'd be the guy that gets a divource after I leave the wife on the bank because she distracted me too many times making a 1 minute job last 20 mins.

I fish from a dock with no fishing signs on it, all the time but when
I see a boat come in or going out I stop till they get done. It's
their ramp and I figure they have the right of way.

I know people always say we beat a dead horse with this topic but it truly is one of my favorites.

The stupidity and discourteous nature of people never seizes to amaze me. The lake my wife and I boat at has a rather large ramp. Its big enough to have three boats aside launching all at the same time. You can actually pull head first down the ramp and then make a u-turn, then back into the water.

There will always be that "one" guy, usually pretty wealthy (appearing) with a 65,000 landrover, 30 ft Cobalt sitting on the ramp either, if putting in, loading his boat on the ramp, putting people in it, putting plug in, pulling straps off, hooking up batteries, etc. Coolers, kids, rafts, vests, whatever.

If pulling out, doing all the opposite and worse. He then feels the need to wipe the boat down, dry it off etc. I even saw some guy yelling at his wife to put a coat of wax on it.

I will then ask them politely to vacate the ramp so other's can use it. He always gets indignant and ticked off when informing him of the right thing to do.

I just deleted a complaint about people complaining all the time that people (only other people) are dumb.

Does that really make anybody feel any better or smarter??

Re: People are just dumb!!

sometimes I pick up people from boat ramp docks that are miles closer than my marina. -there will be people hanging out , dangling their feet in the water when I'm trying to dock- I just tell them that "my boat weighs 6,000 lbs and I don't want to mash their legs off". it usually does not come to that-The size of the boat is intimidating.

Heritage has nothing to do with it- there are dumbazz people everywhere.

Re: People are just dumb!!

these type of idiots are in all forms of life. they dont know of the culture or the unwritten rules that the culture lives by. they think just because they have the money to buy a pwc or a boat they are boaters. they dont understand they lifestyle, because it is not their lifestyle. i remember when i was a kid adn i would go with my grandpa or dad on trips and something happened there would be plenty of trucks to stop and help. but now with all the 3 week courses the industry has gone downhill fast. because the people have a liscense doesnt make them a truck driver. same thing in the motorcycle culture and you see it in the boating culture as well.
if you enjoy a recreation then you should also enjoy helping others in that recreation and should go out of your way not to impeed others on their persuit of their happiness and they should not impeed on yours.

What about the guy in the Cadillac Escalade with the 23' Wakeboard Boat with Speakers on the tower?

Oh wait, I am him and can by myself do the deed and vacant the ramp in 5 minutes either way. I like to use the prep area to load/unload... wipe down, dry off, and cover the boat... strange concept.
