Hey guys, my Penta 270 sterndrive isn’t staying down in reverse. The hooks to keep it down aren’t engaging when it is all the way lowered. The springs appear to be in good shape, but the hooks aren’t quite engaged in the down position? Any suggestions on what to look at? I’ve seen some other forums using terms that I don’t know, so if you have a schematic or something that shows the names of the part, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I found what I think is the problem but I’m not sure. My thrust sleeve is only barely protruding out of the part it passes through. It doesn’t look like it has enough travel to allow the hooks to engage. Either that or the push rod is bent and that’s why it isn’t sticking through all the way. Any suggestions on that? From a video, it looks like the thrust sleeve should be sticking further out than mine is. I’ll post a picture below.image.jpg

You are right about the stainless button. Also there is supposed to a flat button that is larger than the bore that the lift system is mounted in. It looks like someone substituted a bolt in it’s place. That can cause damage to the stainless button bending it. Like you said the connecting rod between the locking system and the upper suspension yoke.

Yeah, I disassembled it and it looks like the top of the suspension yoke is worn down so that the button can’t go all the way through. I think I’ll drill that through and that should fix the problem. I think I’ll leave the bolt there for fear that I’ll make things worse by trying to take that off and replace it
