The pee hole works fine in the driveway.
I start the motor and about 20 seconds later the motor starts peeing a good stream.

I put the motor in the water today and was going to let it idle for about a half hour to see how this new to me engine does under at high RPM's

The boat ran great for the first 10-15 mins. Motor was peeing good as the RPM increased the stream increase.

Then I started seeing some smoke around 2800 RPM's and noticed that water had stopped coming from the tailtale/pee hole.

Is there something that would cause the motor to stop peeing when hot?
I figure the thermostats are good since it does pee until it reaches operating temp.
The water pump is suppose to be new.

I have been on this site for years but I usually don't post because someone has already answered my question somewhere else.

I did a compression check yesterday and these are the numbers

123 124
120 122
121 110

I figure the 110 is boder line what do you think?

thanks for any and all help

Sounds to me like you need a new impeller. When was it changed last?

deshet..change the entire waterpump/impeller...and both thermostats..its the only way to rule them out and have a peace of mind that they are good...also do a backflush while you have them off......if it works..do a good decarb..that 110 cyl may be alil carboned up..

I bet you are happy that you did not bother with this boat.

Why would you replace the complete water pump if the only thing wrong is the impeller. That justs seems to me to be a waste of money.
I can understand it if the housing is melted, bubbled, worn out etc.
Same with the thermostats. When the rpm is up, the popet valves bypass enough water to keep the telltale full. Thermostats are opening, so why change them.
Obviously you are one from the school of "Throw Parts at it Till it Works"

I went to check the thermostat today and the were none there.
So I will get two ones I will also get a water pump.

I am dropping the lower unit now but I am trying to figure out how to disconnect the shift rod from the lower unit. I think that tap the pin out of place under the bottom carb but I am not sure.

thanks

Since you did not have thermostats, someone may have had a problem and removed them to cover other problems. While you are not familiar with the motor and maintence done, I would change out the poppet valve assy while I was at it. Low cost items and then you will have done the entire cooling sustem.

Try just dropping the lower 1st - many uncouple right at the bottom with a slide-out fitting.

I had already had the lower unit dropped before reading this.

I installed the lower unit and it pees water fine now, but I don't have and forward or reverse gear. Do I have to dropp the lower unit again?

It there a easy way to line every thing up?

thanks

The difference in price of a complete assembly vs. just the impeller is very nominal.
