Whew! It was as you said i. It only took one diskette. There were three driver choices to select from so I took the first one that seems like it would be appropriate.

I will now take it over to the other computer and have it ready when add new hardware asks for a driver location.

When looking for any drivers try driverguide.com free to join and all drivers are free, they will even make them for you for a couple of bucks if you prefer

Thanks dolluper, I did just join. I will now go looking for a new driver. The one that i386 got for me does not work. There may not be any hope for this card unless I might be able to extract a driver for it out of my business 2k machine where it used to reside. Not sure how I would find it though. Without the card installed in that machine, it would not show up on device manager and all the PCI slots are filled up so it would be a pain to reinstall it.

You MAY be able to locate the drivers on your Win2K machine by going to Device Manger - click view - select Show hidden devices. See if you can find the Intel NIC device... If you do find it there...right click on it...goto Properties - click on the Driver tab and it should show you the file(s) you need. Hopefully, from there you can just copie the files to his PC and be done with it.

This is all just "in theory", I haven't tried this before so can't vouch for it.

Oh BTW, I just found an Intel Pro/100+ Driver disk in my desk drawer. I don't know if it is what you need but I can email you it (zipped up) if you want. It is about 800 kb zipped.

MrWill, thanks for your offer. I will go look inside my win2k machine and see if I can find the driver per your instructions. If I can't, I'll email you for your driver.

Dang sorry Boom. It's not unusual to have to try a few until you get one that works when it comes to oddball hardware. Too bad strike one took so much work.

Well, we're zeroing in on it i386. All the work adds to the experience/knowledge base. Now if only I could remember the nuggets 2 months after I learn them.:p

The card is not oddball, that's why it is a bit aggravating. The FCC ID# did verify it was intel. Maybe Xcusme will weigh in.

This your card? If so, go back to intel and grab the pro100 instead of pro100b drivers, or try the link on driverguide. Driverguide has saved my arse many times, but I still prefer to get drivers from the OEM when possible.

oh boy i386, the trench grows deeper. I followed your link thru to DriversGuide as indicated by the link in the ethernet card ad. As I had just signed up for Driversguide, I followed it's link, for the driver, to the only mirror site offered. When I clicked on it, it took me to the intel site and said "PAGE NOT FOUND". So whoever buys that card won't be able to get a driver from that link. I did not try to look up the indicated file seperately on the intel site.

Grrrrrrrr!

This is the apparent file that I need. 100PDISK.EXE I wasn't aware that device drivers were EXE files though?

Here's a working link. Give that one a shot. Exe's can also be used to package many files at once. Download that. Scan it with your AV (should be ok that's a reputable site) and then double-click it.

I wonder if the card works when you boot your Ubuntu CD?

If you care to try that, open a terminal and type "lspic" (no quotes). It'll tell a lot of info about what's plugged into the PCI bus including that card. Advanced Jedi trick. :)
