Re: Patriotism?

Pardon my position,…NOT!
Oh yah, we and the wrest of the world will be a lot safer if we wait for SO-DAMN INSANE to get accurate delivery technology and fusion nukes before we do anything. Maybe we should take our flags down and build onion domes instead. Then maybe the wako homicide(suicide) terrorists will want to hold hands and sing Khum-Bia with us

Plywoody,
Please think about what you're saying. Can you honestly say, and do you honestly believe, that the only reason that Binladen hasn't launched another attack against the US is because IRAQy leadership hasn't instructed him to?

I' oudda here.
Can't take this Neville Chamberlain approach to world terror

Re: Patriotism?

Crab bait, seems like you're trying to put us in a lunatic flag waving box, and am not mad about that , but don't agree. The question is "What is going to work?". We in the USA have the luxury of being able to think in a magnanamous way because life is easy for us, a bit like the French aristocracy prior to their revolution (let them eat cake). That's the way I see the left, as not in touch with reality, and unbearably and stupidly arrogant. We've got a serious problem here. It is clear that OBL or others will provoke us till we "play into their hands". The next provocation will be anthrax or smallpox or VX gas. We have to deal with this sooner or later. Better sooner. The future cannot withstand this kind of threat as the status quo. To capitulate insures the survival of this kind of terrorism. Can we have a meeting of the minds with the likes of OBL? I don't think so. We can never count on him or his kind to decide that " you know , that USA is really a group of peace loving people". The best we can do is deny him his weapons with which he will kill our sons and daughters wives and parents, and let the world know we cannot be trifled with. I do not understand how many of you can capitulate on the issue of weapons tailor made for terrorists after 911. If you are afraid to act now, you will be afraid to act later, and the conditions will only deteriorate.

Re: Patriotism?

BTW Plywoody, I think we should find a way to align ourselves with mainstream Muslims too. How about freeing Afghanistan and Iraq peoples. The real danger is with the Kingdoms. They are the real seat of opportunity for OBL. That's the wild card and the danger.

Yes, Sco, and I never pretended that this would be easy to align ourselves with mainstream Muslims, or any of this will be easily achieved.
But it must be attempted, and probably most importantly must be percieved that that is our goal.
Language is important, perception is important. Liberation of people is an important and noble goal, which is specifically what concerns me about Afghanistan, and concerns me about Iraq. Afghanistan is currently a mess of warring warlords, and we seem to have backed off. I argue this is not what I call "liberation" If we do the same in Iraq (there are three separate groups all vieing for power in Iraq once Saddam is gone) we simply increase the chaos, and the danger in the world.
It would be nice to think if we get rid of Saddam, that democracy would suddenly flourish--free press, open markets, and the like, but it isn't likely to happen, I am afraid.

Re: Patriotism?

We're converging on some sort of agreement here Plywoody. Maybe the peace cannot be held there, in Afghan... or Iraq, But in that worst case I bet they think twice about making us their mortal enemy...if we follow through that is. Anything though will be better than a biological loving fanatic with big money and expansionist fanatics that want nothing less than the conversion of all peoples in the world to an islamic state. In the best case, a better life will be had for Afghan and Iraq as an example that will spread.
