Got 1974 Gm 225 OMC up and running, but it wont idle below 1000 rpm, seems to be flooding fairly readily. Runs great above that, but obviously cant take it out on the water shifting at that speed. I think its time to rebuild the carb, I couldn't get anything to work adjustment and cleaning wise.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge with some online parts distributors and specifically with rebuild kits?

Mahoney, I bought my Rochester 4bbl rebuild kit at the mercruiser dealer. It was $24, which was a couple of dollars more than aftermarket. The replacement parts were inlet needle and seat, gaskets, ball bearings, carb fuel filter and accelerator pump.

It was easy to install.

Its generally a good idea to replace the float on those carbs at rebuild time too. I just rebuilt the 2bbl carb on mine. Got a kit from a marine place online for $24.00 plus shipping. It was missing a couple gaskets and had the wrong air horn gasket. Looked exactly like the kits that come for car carbs. You could probably get the number off your carb and get a kit at a parts store.

Re: Parts Resourse for rochester quadrajet rebuild kits?

I am having the same problem on an 1986 190hp with the rochester 4 bl. it runs great when its cold and at mid to high rpm but when its warmed up at idle it floods out. when the flame arrestor is removed I can look down the float bowl vent and see the fuel level rise until comes out the vent and leaks all over, obviously flooding and stalling the engine. I took the top of the carb off and removed the needle and seat but they looked okay. The needle was a little flat on the end but the merc online catalog shows it with a flat tip so i dont think thats the problem. I didnt have this problem untill after I installed new fuel pumps s (I have two engines). The other engine runs great. Could the pressure be too high? Am I missing something. Is there a way to regulate pressure? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
