Hi all. I am new to this forum as I recently got a boat after many years without. Yippee! But, I have a lot of work to do, and was wondering if any had any ideas where I might find used or new parts.

I want to keep it as original as possible. I mainly have a problem with the steering. The housing that holds the shaft between the steering wheel and the cable pulleys is broken beyond repair. Having aquired 2 boats in my life that both had that problem, I would think that someone out there would make replacements of some kind. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am really excited about this project. This boat was given to me by a great friend who purchased this boat 52 years ago as a teenager. I want to do him right by restoring it to its former beauty and function again.

Here are a couple of pictures of her as I received her, assuming my attachments are seen. I also need to get cushions of some kind for her. Thank you for your help. :)

You're gonna have to be creative and patient...search the web for old donor boats, keep your eyes open when driving for same, post an ad on sites that specialize in old boats/motors. Or you might could fab up a replacement yourself, or through a local craftsman.

Thank you for your responses and encouragement. In just a few weeks time, I have completed my work on the boat. We have had it out a few times now. It really came out good. I fabricated a steering housing out of pvc pipe, a 3/4" inch piece inserted inside of a 1 inch ID and a grease fitting to grease the shaft. It works great. The old Johnson Javelin 35 runs great. 114 # of compression in one cyl. 116 in the other incredible for a 52 year old motor. It was a lot of work, but well worth it.

It was a lot of work, but well worth it.

Your works shows. You've got a real classic cruiser there and I'm sure it turns heads at the lake. Nice job.
