Very thankless job I'm sure.

I'm loving this place more everyday. So many new concepts and things to learn. I realize just how little i know every day reading these posts.

Big thanks for keeping the spammers away so I dont get sucked in :)

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

Everyone, PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT on the spam threads. Just click the triangle exclamation point report button. Posting to it is not helpful and can in fact be detrimental. When we're scanning over threads and see a suspect thread but it has a recent comment from a known member, we may think it's legit when it isn't. Report report report. Thanks.

thanks EZ for that clairification......you had mentioned that once before but i didnt quite understand why.

i have "bumped" comments of a sexual nature off the top of the list so they do not appear on the main page.

But it is the on-line shopping season and the marketing guru's (even if they may be from foreign countries) are just slamming every place they can. It is similar to many stores that have decorated for the holidays. Yes, the mods have been busy (Kudo's to Don and JB...... who are wearing out their SMITE buttons ;))

Please be tolerant and THANK YOU!! to everyone who has reported and continuing to keep watch :D

as you know i monitor and report the forum late at night (the gap between when don s and qc log off and bondo comes on) and i must say.....you guys are pretty quick....so.....whos loosing sleep ??:eek::p

I for one have appreciated the hard work put into this forum. It keeps it clean and safe. I will admit I've been frustrated a couple of times with my threads, lol, but I can't say enough thanks for what you people do. Your time and effort is priceless.

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

Maybe try setting a requirement of 5 posts before you can start new threads. Figgin spammers
Unfortunately, they sometimes post in open threads or resurrect old ones. We'll have to just keep reporting 'em.

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

You all keep the 'machine' lubricated, tuned and running smoothly behind the scenes. I do scratch my head sometimes on some of the locked threads, but I can see that in the scheme of things by the small example you've shown in the picture, we simply don't see all of the behind-the-scenes effort, rather just the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks for clarification on the triangle...never had to use it, which is a good thing.

It's a job well done and much appreciated!

I belong to a couple of interest based sites that allow political discussions. I wish they were run like this site and have even tried to convince the mods on them to do what iboats does, which is to keep thing at a civil level.

I guess my point is, that you guys have the right idea and I appreciate it. No explanations necessary.

I had no idea that there was so much spam and the level of effort the mods put into maintaining the forum. Thanks guys, your efforts are appreciated.

There isn't typically. We're getting bombarded now and it's not fun at all. :(

Hey, do any of you guys know where I can get some "man pills"? I've heard there's this new website... :p

I really hate seeing that garbage. Thanks for clearing that out and keeping iboats family friendly :D

lol..... i was on the other night and monitoring the forum.....

our mods are getting them so fast that most spammers dont have a chance to post.......

out of the few spam messages that do get thru......5 or 6 are blocked before they even have a chance to post......these guys are good

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

Beyond the quick death of spam threads that are reported, these guys are all over everything. I've crossed a line once and was told so and now I know where that line is. Keeps the trolls and conflicts to an absolute minimum.
This forum is dedicated to all things boating and anything that takes the focus away from that seems to be not allowed, and fairly but firmly moderated.
My hat's off to you, gentlemen moderators.

Ayuh,.... It truly is a Good feelin' to hit the Banned button with in a minute, or 2 of their posting,...
Especially when you can see they're still on the site, as the icon is lit green...

Trouble is,... JB, 'n Don have been beatin' me to it,...
'ell, JB's Smitten totals have Gotta be climbin' into the Hundreds, if not Thousands...
I'm sure his trigger finger is gettin' raw....;)

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

I got him, but don't go crazy with PM's when you see a spammer post. Most of the spammers never post, and when they do they get reported and banned. Then when the mods look at the list of new members the spammers that didn't post get banned.

The point is, if we don't get there in 3 seconds flat, don't panic, and don't click on their links. You have no idea where they came from or what viruses or worms you could catch from them.
