Any suggestions on how to keep a boat registration and other paper work from getting wet? The registration has to be on the boat when the boat is being used. I really don't want to carry my wallet with me when boating.

I have it laminated then punch a hole and hang it some place on the boat.

I installed something very similar to one of these in the console of my RIB. It was perfect to store the registration, car keys, cell phone, wallet, etc., where they would not get wet, but were still easy to get to. I placed a couple of white LEDs on the outside of the tube (inside the console) connected to the courtesy lights to light the interior of the tube at night.

A good ole Ziplock freezer bag will do the trick!

Mine is in a ziplock bag and that is inside a plastic marine storage box - similar to an ammo box - with a sealed lid that also contains my first aid kit, spare fuses, and spare light bulbs.

Another here that keeps a water proof box in the boat for registration, wallets, cell phones and whatever else needs to stay dry. It also floats BTW!

So do I...double zip-lock sandwich bags in the waterproof box, along with a few fuses, tools etc.

for years there have been floating key chains that pop open and you can put your reg. inside... waterproof and you can't go (motor) boating without the keys.

A good old double sealed Ziploc bag works for me. By the way in many states you are required to have not only the registration but some type of I.D. onboard too.

if that's where your ID is at. at least take that with you. never know when leo might wanna talk with you. might need your ID.
as for the boat paper work. i use an emergancy whistle. i've no idea where i got it. but it must be for boating because it's a whistle (maybe for camping emergency too, might be coleman?). it has a sealed (rubber gasket) hole in it for water proof stick matches. i took all but a few of the matches out and put my registration (folded up) in it. the under side of the screw on cap is a small mirror. could be used as a signaling devise maybe.
anyways, its always on my boat, never had the paper work get wet, always got a noise producing devise on board etc.
this seems to work well for me.

Dunno if this is a thread jack or not, but I almost never bring ID with me boating. As far as I can tell, its not required in North Carolina for folks old enough to not need proof of boater certification. I've had a few "safety checks" as well, never been asked for ID but always for the registration. Is ID really required in some states?

As to the OP, I use ziplock bags for the registration (inside a "marine ammo box") on my big boat, just the ziploack bag with my fire extinguisher in the jet flea, and in "otter" box with my phone in the little boat.

I use an old Tums bottle, big enough for all my papers and it has a lid and won't rip like a zip lock, works out really well.
