painting a galvanized trailer

hey guys, whats the best way to go about painting a galvinized trailer, its in decent shape just rusted around where the u bolts are attached. need to know rust prevention methods that will look good too, thanks<br /><br />Ben

well, 70Seacraft, I'd say there's a few "right" ways and then there's all the "other" ways. Painting over galv isn't as easy as may be thought. If you want the paint to last decent preparation is required.<br /><br />here's a link to preparing hot dip galv coatings for painting that will explain the situation.<br /><br />Instead of painting the whole thing, have you thought of touching up the affected areas with cold galvaniz? (which can be purchased in a spray can)
