Doing a lot of work to bring my old Fiberglass Jon Boat skiff up to speed.

I am almost done prepping the hull for a new paint job.
The boat will be used for fun and hunting so I am going to go with a OD Green.

I was wondering what primer you fellas would recommend. Do I have to go with a 2-part epoxy primer? Is there something cheaper that would work or should I just bite the bullet and get the good stuff?

Any specific brands would be great.

I used the Majik formula that is in the stickies and am really happy with the results. For primer, DO NOT use the majik primer, get rustoleum primer. The Majik paint is great, their primer is horrible. Also something I recently realized is that the Majik colors all come in rattle can so you don't have to mix a batch for scratches, just spray on a piece of cardboard and then a small brush will do the job.

@buxmj Thanks for the feedback - it comes at a good time. I went to TSC and got the majic primer a few days ago. I am going to head back and exchange it for the Rustoleum primer. I appreciate the insight!

I painted the boat per the sticky thread and it looks great.

I have an issue though - the paint is a flat olive drab color for duck hunting. I have already made a few light scratches from applying my state number decals. I touched them up with some paint.

Issue is I don’t want to touch it up every time it gets a tiny scratch but this flat paint is impossible to not scratch.

What should I do to make it more durable but keep that nice flat finish for duck hunting?

Flat paint scratches and scuffs easy. Each scuff leaves the paint surface more shiney than the surrounding paint

Thanks for the feedback -- it is always something! I picked up some Rustoleum Matte Enamel Clear spray paint. I'll give it a try this weekend
