Paint Stripper on hull?

Hi gents, I am getting some water seapage through my fiberglass hull (1979 22ft Campion) so a new gelcoat seems to be in order. My question is can I use a paint stripper to speed the process along or will my hull delaminate? Any info/experiences appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why do you want to use the stripper? Is it painted now?

As for info go to the red search at the top of the page and enter "painting" there are over 200 threads on this so sit back & read away. I think you will find that most will recommend that you stay away from gelcoat & use a quality marine pain system.

Re: Paint Stripper on hull?

Thanks for the reply Solite. The hull has antifouling paint on it now and it is several layers thick (1979 hull) I wanted to bring it down to the gelcoat so that I could re-seal it with another coat of gelcoat and repaint it with new antifouling. Sanding was taking forever so I thought there might be a quicker way, although when I did a search like you mentioned I did see that some recomend and some do not. With boats I guess there is never an easy answer. Cheers.
