I want to paint the bottom of my boat due to 2 week stays in the keys where the boat is in the water all the time . I trailer it and stored the boat in my back yard the rest of the yr . The boat is a 1991 20' bayliner trophy wa good condition , it has never been painted and the bottom is in fair condition but looking 19 yo . It was always waxed but the gray has faded over the yrs . I wanted to have it painted with something that won't come off when I trailer and something I won't need to do every yr . I also wanted to try to match the gray color the boat is now if that's possable . Would a epoxy base coat be wise on a old boat 19 yo or a epoxy bottom paint ?Any ideas on what it should cost to have it done with epoxy base paints ?? and thanks for the input! jjb

JJ,

Sounds like you need an ablative bottom paint since you launch and pull. Pettit makes a line a bottom paints that come in multiple colors. Its called Vivid. You can even mix two together to get a different shade or color. I am not sure if it is ablative or not. You don't need an epoxy barrier coat under the antifouling paint since you pull it after only two weeks. Barrier coats are used to prevent osmotic blisters on boats that stay in the water year round.
