I am restoring a old Nomad boat, dont know what year it is but I was wondering if there is any cheaper alternatives than buying bottom boat paint. I can but Im having a hard time guessing how much paint I will need. I already sand blasted it so it is kinda rough, im going to sand it down to make it a bit smother and I asume you have to buy some type of aluminum primer right? After that is there any way of using some type of latex house paint or something instead of that expensive bottom boat paint? Sorry if my questions are odd but I have never done this before. Any help will work, thanks.

(Here is what I want it to look like)

Re: Paint Problems

Spend some time and read.

You are going to need to prime that hull with zinc chromate then you can use rustoleum.

Re: Paint Problems

There are alot of helpful ideas throughout this forum. Look at any Starcraft thread and it will take you on quite a journey clicking on all the links. As far as bottom paint (and maybe someone will chime in and correct me) , it's biggest atdvantage is that's is smoother and continually releases a copper agent that retards scum and other marine life from attaching and growing on it. Really important if you leave your boat in the water. Good luck and have fun.
