Paint for Registration Numbers on Hypalon?

What kind of black paint can I use to paint the registration numbers on my hypalon inflatable? Anything I can buy inexpensively at Home Depot or the local arts & crafts store? I noticed Home Depot has a good set of stencils for $2-3. Thanks!

I used a set of stencils and a can of Black Krylon spray paint for plastics on my 9' Avon rollup. It worked very well and is still like new a year later. The registration stickers however are starting to peel off.
I keep my boat rolled up for months at a time and have had it out 3 times this year.
I got the Krylon from Wally World.

I ended up just using a black Sharpie marker. Actually, I used several because a couple of them dried out fast. Looks pretty good from a short distance, but you can see the marker lines up close.

Now I just have to find a good way to put on the registration stickers. I roll up my boat after every use, so sticking them right on the side of the tube is not a good option. I might try the little rubber squares from West Marine that glue on the side and then you put your stickers on top; or I've seen guys put a sticker on the upper inside of the transom too.

While I have seen the state sticker placed on the transom it is not a legal application. If you get spotted or stopped by any of the many agencies working in San Diego they will hassle you for that. The little plastic sticker holders do work well for me. I glued the holders in the correct positions just behind the CF numbers with two part Sta Bond glue. The state stickers have stayed applied to the holder well through normal use, but would peel off if someone tried to remove it. If I was leaving the vessel out and accessible I would consider using a more permanent glue to attach the sticker to the holder.

Apparently permanent markers eat into the fabric and you can't ever erase them completely. So I also looked for paint. Bought the one that my Achilles dealer recommended, and it is now peeling off. He did mention that I would have to "touch up" every year, but it started peeling off after one week...

west marine sells a kit stencils and paint for less than $20.00.

I bought the rubber squares to put my registration stickers on from West Marine. I glued them to the side of my boat and they are sticking just fine to the hypalon so far.

The problem is the registration stickers won't stick to the rubber squares! It's like the squares are coated with teflon! The rubber surface seems really slick. I tried sanding them with rough grit sandpaper, but it had no effect and wouldn't scuff them. I tried gluing on the stickers with rubber cement, but that wouldn't stick to the squares either.

Any suggestions on how to get my stickers to stick?

The stickers are trying to come off my boat too! They were fully adhered while the boat was stored rolled up since last year. As soon as I start using the boat on a weekly basis the stickers have just about fallen off. I think that the cheapo stickers can't handle the little bit of stretching of inflation.
Maybe I'll try a staple gun.

The Krylon paint numbers still look fresh however.

Defender.com also offers a registration plate for inflatables that is made by RECMAR Products and has worked well for us.

i was thinking about applying the registration numbers to a piece of plexiglass and then just ziptying it to the boat. What do you guys think?

1. Plexiglass plate with numbers works, provided attached to boat so as not to flop around under way.

2. Krylon fabric paint works but never seems to dry and remains sitcky.

3. Duct tape "border" around numbers and state sticker works, but only if boat is never deflated.

I have used all three methods; none work all that great!

Department of Homeland Security no longer allows placards with boat numbers to be hung over the side of any boat. All boats must have numbers permanently affixed to the hull............

When I bought my boat the dealer had a company that he sells for. They offer a placard made out of the material of your boat that you glue on with your registration numbers and a very nice place to attach the reg sticker. I had the sticker come off my previous boat so when I saw this it was worth it just to know that the sticker would remain for a very long time. You can do everything online with them. Fill out their little online form to tell them the details of your numbers, what state you are in (reg are different from state to state) and how the spacing of the letters/numbers you want are supposed to be. Magic marker - easy to apply and semi-permanent. I used it on a PVC boat with no problem. No way hypalon is going to suffer from a micro-layer of pigment and solvent.
