Overheating 85 Horse Evinrude

I have a 1974 85 Hp Evinrude that seem to be getting hotter than normal. ?I've changed the water pump and head gaskets but stiil seem to run hot.

The motor has only one thermostat (vernatherm); it probably needs to be serviced.

It is possible that your water passage deflectors may have moved, but the thermostat is more likely.

I'm with the stat's if it has not been checked recently.

Have you actually measured the temperature with a melt stick or infrared thermometer?

Thanks for the info. I took it to a boat shop and they changed both of the head gaskets but didn'yt change the thermo... I hope I didn't get taken.

Did you change the water pump yourself ??? or did the same shop do it ???
