I recently purchased a boat equipped with an Evinrude 140 v4, and I put it in the water for the first time this year, the other day. A weird problem that kind of went away has returned... that is, the overheat alarm comes on after a couple of minutes of running the engine under load. The only way to silence the alarm is to shut it off and wait a minute or two. Then the engine runs fine for a few more minutes, and the alarm comes on again. I had to shut it off about six times, and each time the interval between problems increased. After the sixth try, I ran it for fifteen minutes without any problem. Last year I had the problem too, but it went away. I don't believe it is a true overheat problem. The impeller is brand new, and the tell-tale spout produces a healthy stream. Splashing water on the heads reveals no steam or evidence of overheat. I went to the dealer who sold me the boat/engine combination, he told the previous owner had the same problem, and to solve it he disconnected the alarm and was able to operate problem-free. When the dealer attached the engine to this particular boat, he hooked everything up again. I am considering disconnecting it again, but I am nervous about losing the overheat alarm. Any ideas?
