I have a 1964 boat and motor, (75 hp johnson) that has been sitting for 6 years. There is an electrical junction box on the side wall of the boat that is just trashed. It houses a solonoid and some other components that I am not sure what they are but they are all rusted. It also has wires that the insulation is dry rotted. Is there any way to get new updated parts to replace these old crusty relics?

Re: overhaul

The junction box houses the starter solenoid, fuse panel, and if the engine is an electric shift, the voltage regulator for the generator. Parts are still available, solenoid about $50, V.R. about $100.

If you are handy and understand 12volt wiring, you can rewire it with everything fitting under the cowl (hood), but you MUST get the proper manuel with the proper wire diagram! Original OMC manuel, not seloc or clymer.

Spend some time determining if the engine is worth reviving. Spark, compression, fuel. Good luck :)

Re: overhaul

So are these parts hard to find for a 75hp on a 64 Johnson elec system hard to find?

Re: overhaul

You might not find many new OEM parts but there are aftermarket parts, and you can always start collecting names of salvage yards for used parts.

Re: overhaul

I can not find the model # of the motor that I have. I was told by someone that it is supposed to be located on a tag by the boat mount, I looked and it is gone. Now I am lost.

Re: overhaul

By working the charts backwards, it will be one of the following model#'s, V4-16,V4H-16,v4S-16, that is if it is a 1964 model.

Re: overhaul

I am having great difficulty finding a voltage regulator for a 64 johnson 75hp electric seahorse outboard. I have looked online but the one I have only has two connection posts, and all the ones I find have more. This is getting very frustrating. Need help please! Is there a way to bypass the reg or is that a bad idea? If someone has any ideas please let me know.
