I have a 1998 60 hp mariner. When i'm trolling at 800 rpm the over heating warning goes off after 5 to 10 minutes. Its a constant alarm, this means over heating...right? The motor is pushing a good stream of water out of it and I can put my hand under it when the warning buzzer is going off and its warm at best. If I put it in neutral and raise the rpm's to around 1200 after about 30 seconds the warning goes off. It does not sound off at any other time only when the rpms are between 800 and 1,000. I am wondering if the sensor is bad or not? What else could it be?
Thanks for any help!!!!!

Re: over heating alarm???

It could be a bad sensor, or it could be actually overheating where the sensor is.

If the water pump impellor is over a year old, I'd replace it. Then go from there. Next would be the sensor, then the thermostat. After that, you're looking for either obstruction or an exhaust leak into the water jacket, and it gets involved.

hope it helps
