Hi.
Can you tell me what the running temperature of these engines should be?
I am having problems with on of my engines. Just replaced the Impeller and t stats, and it pumps loads of water nicely, but to feel the engine is a lot hotter than the other one. I have got a infrared temperature reader so I can see if its just me or it is getting hot.
Thanks for the help

I've been told that they should run about 140 degrees at idle and about 160 degrees at WOT. Depending on the year, you should have the alarm which will sound and cut the RPMs down while you are running.

Since you say they're Ocean Pro's we'll assume they are the 60 degree loopers, not the 90 degree crossflows. They will run warmer at idle then cool a bit as you increase rpm's.

If you only replaced the impeller now would be the time to go back and change the liners in the pump housing.

Verify that the temp senders are working. If they're OK and not setting off the alarm, you're good to go.

They are year 2000 jonhsons. I shall check the senders. Its pumping lots of water, when I compare it to the other engine they are the same. The Alarm only went off once, but if you feel the engine its too hot to touch even for a second, also the leg of the engine you can not touch, where as the other engine thats been ran the same you can touch it and its just warm.
I have booked the boat in to the dealer for a good service next week. Is it possible to install temperature gauges to these engines? We are a diving centre and loads of different poeple are always taking the boat out daily, not all of them have the brains to switch off when the alarms go off.
your helps much appreciated

Heat gauges are very easy to install on those. Each head has a place for a sender although most folks only install 1 gauge per motor. But that gives you a choice of which head you want to use.
