outter oil seal in lower unit

which way does the seal go in
If you look at the parts diagram for your motor on the BRP parts website you will probably find a small inset diagram which shows which way the seals are fitted,

I would expect the lips of the inner seal to face inwards , to keep the oil in and the lips of the outer one to face outwards to keep the water out.

What vic said. Lips face the liquid you are trying to stop. Inner one faces the oil in the gearcase. outer one faces the water in the sea.

thanks for the info , my lower unit was leaking and the seal had been installed to keep water out, but not oil in.I pressure tested the lower unit and the oil came out the two small holes that are used to remove the seal.
