Output shaft endplay 98 50hp Johnson

I have a 1998 50hp johnson outboard the output shaft moves in and out of the housing about a 1/4 inch ,is this normal or should it be less,if less then what should it be and how can i fix it.thanks.

Is the seal leaking? If not, don't worry about it.
