Outdrive Wont Go Up

Will go down when I push the in button but wont go up when I hit the up button. I did have a chance to take a fast look at the situation pretty sure its a eletrical problem. The pump has only one solenoid on it looks as if there is only one hose going from the pump to the outdrive. There are two hoses going to the bottom of the ram on each side of the outdrive. Can someone give some details how this system works? I would think the pump is used to raise the outdrive with hydraulic pressure in this setup but dose pressure bring it down? Or maybe the fluid id just allowed to drain back to the pump to bring it down? O yea Alph One

there are 2 hoses with that pump system.
There are two hoses going to the bottom of the ram on each side of the
Clarify: 2 hoses to each cylinder or 2 hoses with 1 going to each cylinder

From time to time the rams should be rebuilt, depending on age and saltwater usage. They can and will get nasty inside. However, first jump solenoids. There is one for up and one for down on your pump motor. Examine to see if od raised and lowered. If not, you may have a bad pump. If you heard noise but no ram movement, chances are you need to rebuilt rams. If everything worked ok, then you have other issues. Perhaps corrosion?

Two hoses to each cylinder. They are at the bottom of the cylinder. But from what I can see only one hose from the pump to the transom. I do need to get a better look I did see just one hose leading away from the pump.

No noise at the pump when I hit the up button. That is why at the moment I think it is electrical. Right now I am picking brains to get a idea of how the system works.

Bad solenoid or bad trim limit switch (left side of drive) / wiring. Employ a good meter and start tracing to see what is open. Also check if the solenoid is getting power, but not activating.

Will the up activate if you hit the trailer switch on the helm control while trimming up? The trailer switch bypasses the drive limit on the drive unit.

Just look at the wiring diagram in the PDF and will show you all the possible culprits.

Just got a better look. there are two hoses going from pump to transom. One was clear plastic and buried so it threw me.

Did you try jumping the solenoid? The diagram you posted has only 1 solenoid; I thought all the alphas had 2...

If you have a 2 wire motor. Apply voltage one way and the motor runs up. Apply voltage the other way and it runs down

If you have a 3 wire motor. Black is ground. Blue is up, green is down

Almost everything is working but that is some scary looking wires! LOL Cant seem to find replacement parts or a good diagram for that setup. but it will go up and down now. for some reason the preveious owner patched in a rocker switch and removed the trim limit switch and sender. The three button switch will let the drive go down. the other buttons do nothing. I did take apart the three button switch and all three show continuity.

The trim pump wiring is in the pictured condition and your wondering why you're having issues?

The trim pump wiring/solenoids needs replaced completely

Look into getting the latest style oildyne pump assy. Will connect right up to your existing boat wiring/trim lines and work well. Really anything would probably work better than that mess
