outdrive template

OK! i just got my template for my 86 omc cobra outdrive
my question is do i paste it to the transom once i get it in the right position
and then cut on the line or is there another way of doing it ?
any suggestions would be appreciated!

The link below is and installation manual for a Volvo SX drive, but the cutout is EXACTLY the same as your Cobra.
Study pages 7 through 19 carefully before cutting.
