Outdrive swap

I have a 79 welcraft 25 foot someone stole my outdrive it had a model 260 on it Can I put a 140 on it and be safe or will it even work I dont know anything about that stuff any info would be greatly appreciated thank you

It will physically fit, but it's completely the wrong gear ratio. The 140 is a 1.98:1 ratio, the 260 needs a 1.50:1.

No just changing the prop won't cure the problem.

Someone stole my outdrive yesterday It was a modle 260 I know a fella that has a 140 for sale pretty cheap Can I change the top half of the 140 to a 260 and still use this drive ?
