The internal gears are the same strengths, if that is what you mean. There are improvement to the GenII. Much better water pump, as an example. To switch to a GenII you will need to replace everything behind the transom, from gimbal housing to propeller.

Thank you.
Rick has you steered straight. R, MR, Alpha one gen one drives will fit and be fine strength wise. A earlier MC1 will also bolt up but is older.
you can also use an SEI aftermarket gen one replacement. Assume you have a bad drive or two?

Hi Scott06,
Here's what I have.
Boat one, is a 87 Chris Craft Scorpion 210 with a frozen 5.7 and it's original Alpha One R drive. Looks exactly like the first photo Rick posted.

Boat Two, is a 91 Baja Force 216 with a low hour (398 to be exact) and its original 350 Mag and Alpha One Gen 2 drive. Looks like the drive in Ricks second photo. The boat was in barn collapse and the hull is toast. My ambitious plan is to marry the two together.

solution is easy take drive line engine, transom, outdrive from baja and drop it into the Chris craft. Will be bolt in.

check stringers and transom for rot when you have driveline out.

sell transom housing and drive off Chris craft

Strip it all out and swap everything, motor to prop. Unless you swap the wiring harness as well, there likely be a couple missing things in the old harness you will have to deal with.I did a similar swap and it wasn't all that hard. And was a lot of fun, the end result especially.

I would leave the harness with the motor complete bobtail swap both engines should have the same 10 pin plug to connect to helm harness

If you got complete donor boat engine and drive package working, as previously said it should be a simple remove and replace after verifying transom and stringers are solid, checking transom cutout is in correct position and verifying the bolt holes line up and the two extra holes the gen 2 outdrive needs.
