Outdrive Paint?

I found that my Volvo outdrive was missing the sacrificial anode, and there are a couple of spots on the unit where the silver high gloss paint is peeled off and there is a bit of oxide showing.

What is the correct way to fix this?

I would assume to remove all oxide (and replace anode, which I have). Can I brush on a paint, and if so, what kind should I use? Do I need to use a primer?

I would sand it with some 600-800 grit being sure to feather the edge realy well till you hit good metal all the way around the bad spots then you HAVE to use etching primer because it is aluminum, available at any auto parts store.

As for the paint, get with a Volvo dealer and I am sure they have a can of spray paint that matches the lower btu I don't think you want to brush it, first it would look pretty bad and then I don't know if there is a paint that will hold up, spraying is the way to go.

Except for the spots that are bare you need to only scuff the good paint, no need to remove it completely.

Most of the paint is in really good shape. Just a couple spots of "rust". A very small touch-up sized spray can should be all I need.

But I want to stop the corrosion before it spreads.
