Outdrive interchange

Can i use a pre Alpha OD to replace an alpha 1 the good drive is a 1975 140 HP and i want to put it on a 1986 140 HP

Ayuh,... But you'll need to change over the Input shaft too...

so just put the drive shaft from the alpha on the old OD and that will work?

or is the input and gear inside the old OD different
