When I turn my prop shaft counter-clockwise, the u-joints do not move or spin.
In the achris video, advance to 3:47 where he spins his prop counter-clockwise, his u-joints spin.
Mine does not do that!? Any ideas why??

This is the exact point where I am stuck in my outdrive install.

Need to move the shift selector arm straight ahead, which is forward gear.

When the shift selector arm is straight forward, the prop shaft will not move counter-clockwise. At all.

You just move the shifter on the drive itself manually by hand. You'll know you're in forward because when you turn the prop backwards, it does NOT click ....................If it's in reverse, the "dogs" will click. (when you turn the prop in the reverse direction)

You may also have to either turn the prop the input shaft slowly as you move the shifter into forward gear. Do not try to force it into gear without turning either the prop or input shaft.

I can get the shifter into the forward position. The prop shaft will not turn counter-clockwise. The u-joints will not spin.
It seems, from the achris video, that this is (very) important to line up the splines.
This is where my install is stuck (the slide is behaving properly -- headed for the cavity).

The drive will not go in. The prop shaft will not spin.

?? How do you advance the spline while in Forward position ??

Ayuh,..... It takes quite abit of brute force,.....

Yer turnin' the impeller in there, as well as the gears, shafts, 'n bearin's,.....

I try to stray from the 'brute force' method, like, I try not to force things. Makes me think something is wrong with my outdrive??? Gulp! But maybe I install the prop for better leverage and force it? Chris just makes it look so easy in the video.

It is really easy to shift it but you do need a little leverage to turn the drive by hand. The impeller is in there.

Alright, that appears to be IT. Put the prop on, placed in forward and I can turn the prop and the u-joints do turn. It is super hard to turn, but it turns.

I've found an alignment tool that I can use tomorrow. So, I'll align and install tomorrow. It's time to finish this project. If luck has it, I'll run a small lake to test run all of the hard work I've put into this boat over the last several weeks.

Fingers crossed. And I'll report back after the test run.

turns easier and less chance of flipping the vanes if you use some K-Y

I'm with thumpar above. Place the O/D shift lever in forward, make sure the helm shift lever is engaged in FWD, WOT. Slip on a prop, and force it CCW until the splines engage with the engine coupler. Many say don't do this to avoid reversing the rubber water pump. But it only takes a very small amount of U joint shaft rotation to get alignment. The alternative is to have a helper bar over the engine with a wrench.
