Outdrive Alignment

I've found that when the drive stops hard just two inches shy of home the splines are not engaging into the engine coupler. Just turn the prop slightly against the forward gear and it will slide right in.

I fought alignment issues for a while with my current boat. Couldn't get it with the front mounts, so I replaced the rear mounts to the new type and it still wasn't perfect. Although i could get the drive to go on with a couple kicks. Sounds like this is where most shops would call it good enough. I still wasnt happy and pulled the motor again. Turns out where the rear mounts sit on the rear transom plate had wore down just a very small amount. I made thin shims to make up the difference and now the drive will slide on and mate to the gimble with zero beating or kicking.
