I have a 1975 Johnson 40hp model # 40EL-75C that will not turn. Its the motor itself that will not turn. I am not sure what the part is called but it's where the engine would normally pivot when you turn the steering wheel. When I put the new cable on and had to straighten the engine is when I realized there was an issue there. It took a LOT of muscle to just get it to move a few inches. When I looked up the parts there didn't appear to be any bearings. I also couldn't find but 1 grease fitting on the bottom. I tilted the motor and looked everywhere on the top portion to see if I could grease it there but nothing. Can anyone tell me how to get my engine turning again?

You probably have an accumulation of crud in the steering mount. You are going to need to take it all apart and clean it out. I will bet that grease has not been coming out both the top and bottom of the steering when the single grease fitting is greased.

Hi, first get at any auto parts PB Blaster, then spray plenty to the moving parts and let the chemical do the work for at least 1/2 hour, then try to move it it should be more easy to move, then spray it again and do the cycle 2 or 3 times it should do the work, if not the nasty part take it all apart and clean it out.
