Outboard Transom Bracket: 18' Starcraft

Hello Everyone,

I recently inherited 3 boats. All are vintage Starcrafts: 1x 22' Islander (I sold her for 500.00), 16' (sold her for 500.00) and finally an 18' that I'm going to keep and restore. These were my dad's collection and there is a lot of story behind each one.

I'll be posting pics of the 18' soon. But I have a thought that I want to throw out to the forum. The 18' had a 70's 65hp Mercury on it. Dad was restoring the motor when he passed but unknown to any of us we threw out the boxes containing all the loose parts and bolts. I later sold the 65hp for parts and found a 90hp 4 stroke 1998 Honda. It might be a little heavy but I'll be restoring the transom anyway.

My thought is to have dadmarine.com fabricate an outboard transom bracket to hold the Honda and a kicker. Their bracket will be bolted to the restored transom on the 18' Starcraft. There are some pluses to integrating the transom bracket.... and some minuses, too.

Does anybody have any direct experience mounting a transom bracket to an old 18' aluminum starcraft. I've seen i few discussions on 22' Islanders but I don't recall reading here of anybody putting it on shorter boats.

Re: Outboard Transom Bracket: 18' Starcraft

Good luck w/ your project

Welcome to the iboats dry dock, tin division

Read thru the SC threads here:
Starcraft Rebuilds and Restorations, they're all here!

Lots of great info in there ^^^

Don't remember seeing any 18' tin OB setback brackets, but an OB 18' will be much better suited to the setback bracket then an I/O conversion.

Sorry for your lose, hope you can feel pop's keeping an eye out & following your progress. A well done tin resto will serve your family & your kid's families for many years. Perhaps they too will have their grandfather's affection for tin.

Get a photobucket acct & use it to post pix IN your posts rather then as attachments. Copy the IMG code for each pix, copy it, and paste it in your post. It will look like this:

And the pix will look like this:
