I've been looking at a boat it can get for a pretty good deal. It originally had a force 50 on it that was swapped out to a 75 mariner. The guy says he might have hooked it up backwards since it only has forward gear now and nothing else. Starts in forward as well. (Scary) so I'm wondering if the force control box will or will not work with the mariner motor? Or cloud it be a simple fix that he just can't figure out and I can capitalize on. I appreciate any input you guys have on this.

with out model numbers and year its hard to tell which motor you are working on. It sounds like the something is not hooked up correctly so get someone to push the controller forwards and backwards and look under the carb area for a bracket that's moving. That bracket should be attached to the shift rod that goes to the lower. If nothing is moving then the problem could be the controller/cable (that would allow you to remove shift cable and manually move the lever to test). If the shift rod is attached and moving the problem could be in the lower.

p.s if the throttle moves before the shift then the cables might be the wrong way around.

If they are would the choke (enricher) not work as well since its not shifted into neutral? The boat is an 88-89 spectrum. The old force 50 is gone but I like the bigger motor anyway if it will work. Not sure of the year on the mariner but I do know it's a 3 cyl and not a 4
