I have a honda 8hp on an aluminum boat, was pulling my brother on a surfboard behind the boat with no issues, however, the engine was making extra noise very loud. Is this me hearing the exhaust bc the boat is so stern heavy? Is this stressing my motor?

I would guess pulling anything other than a fishing lure with an 8hp motor would put a strain on it.

Motor just moves / works against water.-----Motor really does not know what is behind the boat.----The boat operator notices that the result is a slower boat.----Motor works the same.

Probably because you are going slower, the sound waves aren't blown away like when going faster. Also, you probably are paying a lot more attention to what's behind you so your ears are pointed in the direction of the sound more often.

Which boat model/length would that be ? Was the motor at max throttle ? If the extra loud noise only chimed in when pulling your brother that motor is revving at the way lugging side of the wot rpm range which is bad for the motor. Will need to prop the motor much better if plan pulling toys behind a boat.

Happy Boating
