The Pennzoil TCW3 that I have used for decades states it can be used for all two stroke engines, both water and aircooled. Never knew there was a different oil for air cooled !! Never had an engine issue and the Pennzoil gives far less smoke than other brands!!
Water Cooled Engines tend to run a lot Cooler than Air Cooled Engines, and that is why the TCW Oils were developed. TCW in an Air Cooled engine usually isn't a Good Choice. I like smoky Oils as they help keep the Skeeters away.

Interesting....my Pennzoil container states the TCW 3 oil can be used in any two stroke engine whether mixed with fuel or in injection systems. Meets all mfgrs specs for both air and liquid cooled engines. Then there is a long list of mfgrs for chain saws, weed eaters, marine outboard motors, and many others. Never knew or heard of seperate oils for air and liquid cooled engines..
