Re: Outboard help

A lot of folks will install a motor too low so they don't get blamed if it over heats. Have someone run the boat on plane and correctly trimmed up while you look over the transom. If the cavatation plate is just barely out of the water (getting splashed is OK) then it is right. If it is still under water, then the motor is mounted too low. There are a couple other ways to go about it, but this is the best way to tell if it is mounted correctly.

Re: Outboard help

Typically you want the cavitation plate mounted so when trimmed level, it is even with the keel of the boat or just slightly higher I have mine mounted one hole higher than that to reduce drag even more and got more top speed.

The trade off is that it cavitates a little when turning hard at high speed so I just slow down a little.
