outboard engine size?

Originally the Tim Allen in me said to get a 225hp outboard for my 19 foot tri hull project boat.<br /><br />Im thinking 40-60 hp now. I don't know how to figure out what I need, but I want to cruise at at least 35-40 mph. What is the best way to figure out the engine size I need?<br /><br />Also, where are all the deals? Ive been on ebay, on rebuilt motor sites and every one wants 1-5k for a used motor. Where are the $100-$500 engines at?<br />Rob

My 16.5 tri-hull project originally came with a kickin 125 horse Merc, which I will be still using when my project is complete. My hull is rated for 145 horsepower. I can't imagine your hull is rated any less, its probably rated for 175 to 200 horsepower. There is no data plate?
