The insulation/ sound deadner on my 25hp evinrude tracker outboard cowling is starting to flake and send little pieces of crap into my carb. Causing all sorts of problems. I want to replace it with new insulation/sound deadner. Any suggestions from ya'll. Ive seen some types used on video but want to hear from anyone who has actually done it. Thanks in advance.

If the insulation is still good, you could recover it with new plastic to keep the pieces contained. use some heavy trash bags cut to fit and some spray on adhesive.

Alternatively, there is an insulation which looks like silver bubble wrap. It would be fastened with the same spray on adhesive. Home stores should have it.

Won't the plastic melt being that close to the engine??

The plastic should not melt. Mercury OBs have had heavy plastic-encased insulation for years. The mylar bubble wrap is also rated for high temp.
