OK .....first off im not one to complain .... however bought a new to me 2006 Tahoe 1 1/2's year ago at the end of summer boating season 2011. At the time of purchase the trailer had a cracked Optronics tail light completely not working as the owner said it was bumped during storage and damaged. No problem its how I purchased the boat and trailer and was replaced shortly after purchase. About 2 months after that the other side went bad and I thought O well I have bad luck and replaced it too. Fast forward till last week while doing some routine maintenance on the boat and the wife points out while backing the boat back into storage that one of the lights is once gone bad again (upon further inspection the housing is corroded just like 2X before) . Sorry but what crap!!!!! The wire leads into the unit are sealed but the whole lens itself is pieced together with no sealant or gasket. Guess I figured the original light lasted 5-6 years and had not been replaced since new and I could do the same as they are advertised as submersible ......WRONG .... Two regular fixtures later and 2 more LED fixtures after that (slightly modified) it's fixed .... hopefully. I have replaced the lights with LED replacements and sealed them additionally (as Optronics was the only replacement option to mount to my trailer's original mounting holes) . Cant believe what junk company's make to repair our boats with! Guess if it doesnt go bad they cant sell replacement parts and hose us later!!!

I have had optronics led lights that were bad, right out of the package.

Several local shops will no longer sell them.

Using Wesbar #407540 led's on several trailers now. $90 a pair. :(

Do those light fixtures have exposed bulbs, once the lens is removed?

I have that size of light on my 18'ers trailer. The light housings are not sealed at all, but the bulb assembly contained inside is completely sealed water tight. The bulbs can't be replaced as they are in a sealed assembly (well I guess you COULD) but I don't really care because the lights are original from 2001 and still work fine.

I've had my fair share of trailer light problems on my other boat trailers and I dunk it with the lights plugged in and burning, yeah my fault, but I'm usually launching in the dark. The last set of lights I bought for my jon boat trailer 2 years ago (I could swear they were Optronics) had the LED assembly completely sealed in epoxy. I haven't had any issues with those lights.

I've tried the ol "glue up the housing" thing which worked well, until a rock or something else cracked the housing. After that the housing becomes a fish bowl....

They are in a sealed housing inside of the lenses. I have used the optronics.
