I have a 1999 Optimax with only 100 hours on it. I have been told all six air injectors are bad. The engine runs great sometimes and other times will hesitate when reaches around 3000 RPMs. It used to hardly ever do it and now has become more often. Do the injectors short out when they get warm? I don't understand why the boat runs fine sometimes and not others if the injectors are shorting. I had someone from Mercury tell me the injectors on the 1998 and 1999 were actually very good compared to the 2000 and 2001's. He didn't seem to think the injectors were the problem. Anybody familar with these air injectors?

Re: Optimax air injector questions

The air injectors on that engine shouldn't be a problem, the person you talked to at Mercury is correct. I would question the condition of the fuel system. With only 100 hours on the engine after 10 years the fuel injectors may be fouled or you may have trouble with the fuel or air pressure regulators. Unless you have the proper gauges for checking the fuel and air pressures, your best option would be going to a reputible dealer or service shop to have a diagnostic check done on your fuel/air system.
