I have a 1979 basstracker 2 that has served me very well but I'm looking to upgrade to something little bigger and prefer a deep v for the bigger waters. There was a near perfect condition Starcraft walleye 170 on Craigslist that I was 1 call too late on. I've looked at a few tracker v17 deep v boats on Craigslist but wanted some opinions on the quality of these boats. The one I am eyeing right now is a 1994 model with a 75 hp force outboard.

When did tracker stop using wood in their transoms? Are the tracker deep v boats prone to excessive rivet leaks? Any advice is appreciated. I'm in the 3-4k price range limitation.

Force engines have been prone to some issues over the years so you might want to do some more research on that engine.

I will admit back in '83 I bought a brand new 16 foot Bayliner with a 75hp Force engine and never had a problem with it the couple years I owned it before selling it and getting a bigger boat.

Had one for 8 years (a 1991 Pro DeepV 17 with a Merc 60hp). No complaint at all. It's a solid boat with a sharp entry (deep V) that take chop well. The beam is a little short (78") when compared to newer boat in the same categorie but, being relatively narrow, it require only minimal power. As an example, it's rated for up to 90hp and mine's, with a 60hp, reach 33mph, which isn't bad at all. Great fishing layout, transom is made of wood for that year and never had a rivet leak.

Why buy a boat powered by a motor with dwindling parts support?

I bought my '97 Tracker Pro Deep V brand new and still have it, it's the perfect boat for me and the best boat I've ever had.

Have never had a leak.

The transom and decking are made of CCA pressure treated plywood that will never rot and has a lifetime warranty.

There is enough floatation foam in my boat that I can launch with the drain plug out and never notice it during a day of fishing. Water never even comes up through the deck drain to get the deck wet.

I friend of mine has a tracker that has served him well, no issues at all. His boat is equipped with a Mercury outboard. I have no experience with Force outboards so I cannot comment on the engine. But I think Tracker makes solid boats.

I looked at a 2002 Tracker that was in mint condition while I was boat shopping this Summer.....the only think I didn't like was the narrow beam. (at least on the one I looked at). I have seen others on craigslist and most of them that I have seen seem to be that way. The bonus is that you need less HP to move it, the drawback is it just isnt as stable as a wider boat.

I found a Lowe FM175.....it was much much wider. With 115hp I can push 43mph with 3 guys fully loaded. 92" beam. Not as good of shape as the Tracker I saw, but I liked the bigger boat.

Re: Opinions on tracker deep v 17

I'm new to the forum (and a new Tracker owner).
I look forward to using my new boat. I just picked up a 1993 Tracker Pro Deep V 16 on a Tracker Trailstar trailer with the matching Johnson Tracker 40hp motor. It has the Eagle Tracker fishfinder, hell, the TIRES even say "Tracker Marine" on them. When I got it (two weeks ago), it was BLACK from sitting under a tree, I used just a little "Mean Green" cleaner and some elbow grease and now it looks like BRAND NEW. I can't find a scratch anywhere on it, not even on the keel!1993 Tracker.jpg

I picked it up for $500 and got the motor RUNNING on the old gas (which has now been drained and flushed, just wanted to make sure it ran before I start dumping $$$ in it)

Wow great find ^^^^^^

Tracker makes great fishing boats. I wanted a glass bass boat but a few trackers were very very tempting and have great reviews all around. The Force motor would be my only concern.

Trackers have been around for long enough to have the good track record they do, but Force outboards would be a show stopper for me. Find one that has another power plant and you will be fine.

This is the correct answer.

I have the same boat! Question I’m new to boats and was just wondering what size gas tank yours have?
