Ha, I've been training myself to think in metric for many years, now its 'almost' second nature, and the ironic thing is all US cars have been metric for many years except: diameter of wheel rims, still in inches and lug bolts in some cases, but 19mm and 3/4" for lug bolts are nearly the same size.

When you're old you just have to have better tools:
outdrive jack & impact guns
Australia has been metric since the early 70s, so I'm familiar and able to work in both systems, simultaneously. Quite handy at times. :)

But despite that, our tyre sizes are also still in imperial 🤦

true I needed one for the rear shocks on my 2007 Jeep and a few other things.
and I cannot get a definitive answer why the 18mm is skipped in most metric packages?? It is used on a 1995 Chevy truck, too!

not only did I have to pick up an 18mm socket but I also picked up an 18mm ratcheting box end swivel head wrench for certain jobs where it just fits in better.

not only that here's the bizarreness of it:
diameter measured in inches
lug nuts in fractions of an inch in certain cases but at least 19mm = 3/4"
trailer lug nuts are still 13/16th like in the old days!
tire section width in mm but wheel diameter in inches
as an example:
we have a 245(section width in mm)/70(aspect ratio)-17(wheel diameter in inches) system! How absurd!

It must be winter if we are discussing oddball metric socket sizes... how many have a16 mm? I have a 16 mm that i bought in 1995 in a 1/2” drive socket set. Only seen that size once on a college buddies nissan 200 sx rear calipers...

Funny you mention 16mm. Tonight I am upgrading my Suburban tow vehicle to MPI fuel injection and needed a 16mm flare nut wrench for the fuel lines. I went looking through my tools and the only 16mm I have is one side of a double open ended wrench. I said a prayer and used it, and thankfully it worked. It's the only 16mm wrench I have, lol.
