Hi Guys, I'm interested in looking at this engine to repower a 21ft cuddy. Actual hrs are unknown but this is from the seller (A marine service center) "Comes with gauges, binnacle controls, main harness, the oil tank and the prop. Complete Engine - We have serviced the boat/motor for its entire life." The service center says they have all the maintenance records too. I'm assuming that @50 hrs a yr average use would be putting this engine at 1250 hrs toward it's end of service time. Are these good reliable engines and what realistically should I expect from a 25yr old engine? They are asking $2,500.

I have the 1997 version of that motor. Put close to 2000 hours on the first power head before corrosion got it. Have probably 250 hours in it replacement.

To be fair, it had gremlins from time to time. All OE electrical systems have been replaced. Starter, voltage regulator, power pack, etc.

Runs strong but thirsty. Getting 1.9 mpg cruise on a 22’ Grady

Thanks Dingbat, That gives me a little more confidence in purchasing it. Not sure if they'll run it or let me take compression readings, I've never bought an engine I didn't hear run. Do you use the VRO of did you go premix?

Wouldn't own a motor I didn’t trust the VRO on.
Have 154 gallon fuel capacity. Burn way to much fuel to deal with premix.

Keep 3 gallon oil tank full and keep pumping gas

exactly. it's operated like an air pump off crankcase pressure/vacuum. dead reliable!
