do not under any circumstances take the family (including wife, or girlfriend, or both) on the maiden voyage.

I don't speak Missourian so I'm not sure what a pig in a poke is but I know what you're getting at-I would definitely done a water test and hired a marine surveyor if it was a $5k boat, but for $1550 I'm not too worried about it. Sure at the very least I can get more out of it than the stock I bought a while back for $1k that's now worth <$100 :)

Picked 'er up a little while ago and made the drop at the storage place. Owner gave me the run through and some tips for a first time boater. Gonna take her out on the water next weekend and see how she does!

Some pics for the time being:

Galvanized trailer and a SS prop? You did well.

Nice looking boat. Make sure you have everything required on it before you take it out. You can go to the link below and it'll walk you through what the Coast Gaurd Auxialiary checks for when they do a safety check:

Re: Opinions appreciated-cruising/tubing boat for family of 3

First weekend out was an interesting one! Steering locked up on us right after launching on Sat. and I spent about 30mins drifting amiss before a kind soul towed me back in. Fortunately was able to break the pivot shaft loose when we got it back home and it was working well after relubing.

We also realized its a major issue that my Fiance can't drive my truck (manual trans) or the boat so I showed her how to maneuver the boat after we sucessfully launched (and docked so I could sprint back to the truck and clear the busy ramp) today.

Boat did great on the water especially after I figured out how to properly trim it and we had fun anchoring and swimming once I got it set after a few tries.

Unfortunately she had some trouble getting lined up with the trailer when we were loading up, to her credit there was a strong wind pushing to one side, and tagged one of the light stalks with the bow so i've got some repair work to do (time to use those surfboard repair skills I learned long ago!).

The gouge is just through the gelcoat to the first glass layer. Should I get some epoxy or will one of the gelcoat repair kits do the trick?

Overall we had a great time and I'm completely satisfied with my $1500 boat!

sounds great..If the glass itself is just dinged, the gelcoat kit will be fine..If it through the layer of glass, Id get a little piece of glass tape and the epoxy, then the gel coat..btw she looks great in your pics!!! the owners pics didnt do it justice..! Good Luck again :) :)

and all my spare time it seems! Between repairing the damages of the weekend and keeping our high mileage vehicles going (4runner with 301k and volvo with 230k) my day off this week is no more...

Picked up an Evercoat gel coat repair kit, not sure just one is going to be enough but we'll see. Probably tackle that and the tail light replacement on Saturday so we can take the boat out on Sunday again!

Thanks for the input, should be another learning experience :)

Had one other question regarding the motor-it's a self-oiler but the previous owner always added oil to the fuel as well (50:1 ratio). Seems funny to me but he said he just didn't trust the oiling system even though he never had problems with it. I know the oiling system adjusts but I was wondering if it's still getting too much oil in the fuel mixture because of this...

Figured i'd post an update since its been a few months :) Boat has been great, we've used it quite a bit and really enjoyed it! Next purchase will be a tow tube for the little one to enjoy!

Did have one question, anyone know the torque spec for the prop nut on '99 70hp johnson? Noticed it was only finger tight today. I'm planning on getting a manual soon but I just dropped $700 on a new head for my tow rig...
