My son and I have recently completed a 10' hydroplane project. It is ready for it's maiden voyage. I have two available small outboards and am wondering which would be more powerful. One is a Mercury 9.9 hp and the other is Sea King/Chrysler 15 hp. Now while that sounds like a dumb question, obviously the 15 is more powerful, the Mercury just looks and feels like more of a substantial piece of equipment. Have any of you guys ever had either of these motors in like applications and had a preference?
Thank you.

Just a guess but I think if you wanted to play with propellers they would be easier to find for the Merc.
And you may have to go with more pitch to stay in the proper rpm range. You may even be able to find a speed prop.If you go to Johns Old Mercury Web site they may be able to help with the Merc.

Go with the Merc. Parts will probably be easier to find.

Thanks for the input guys. I had a feeling the Merc might be a stronger runner in spite of the hp diff. We'll give her atry this weekend.
