So I bought this basket case motor for $20. Had no spark when I bought it and a bit of water in the lower unit. Luckily it was stored inside so no cracked lower. I replaced points, condensers and coils, new water pump impeller, rebuilt the carb. resealed the lower unit and rebuilt fuel pump. Pumping and running now but if this post lets me post a video , I'm wondering opinions on how it's idling. Seems a bit rough but not bad to me. Then again I'm used to mostly Honda motors which always seem to purr. I have a tach showing me it's alternating between 730-790 rpm but on a cheap Amazon tach around a plug wire so not sure how accurate that reading is. Anyways how does it sound to anyone. Thanks for input.

sounds a bit rough..more work needed .

it is a big 2 cycle kicker .. but not a hummingbird :)

did you set timing properly

if you plan to revive it get the Johnson manual on oldies (good for Evinrude cousins also)
check compression

Before you went and spent Money on

"points, condensers and coils, new water pump impeller, rebuilt the carb. resealed the lower unit and rebuilt fuel pump",

did you perform a Compression Test?

So it was a home for some mice for a while.----It is running rough.----A good example of that motor can run smoother in my opinion.

Yeah didn't mention but I did first thing. Just about 100 on each cylinder so seemed good enough to me to invest the money and time in it.

nice old style carb with LS_HS needles to fine tune it. has suggested get it on a boat and blast away to get it awake :) then fine tune the idle

see manual suggested for 20$ can't beat it for carb and timing
