I have a 1995 Johnson 60hp engine. when I bought the engine it was not running. I got it to start and run but it wants to die. The only way I can make it keep running is to push the key and it feeds fuel to the carbs. The compression is all at 119-121. I have replaced all the spark plugs, ran light mixture of fuel stabilizer to try to clean the jets, new fuel and oil and it still wants to die. The only thing that I can think is the fuel pump diaphragm. Does anybody have any suggestions and or do you know what it takes to rebuild the fuel pump?

If you can keep it running by initiating the key primer ,the fuel pump is fine.Sounds like a clear indication of a restricted carburetor/s.Pay particular attention to the carb bowl pickup tubes. The key primer allows fuel to bypass the carbs.

Not at all.First timers should always use an engine specific manual as a guide. If the linkages are set properly now ,the carbs can be removed one at a time and dismantled for cleaning or installing new kits.
