People like this I would guess are the ones who learned boating "on the fly". We all know we should change our impeller every year or two (or three) but I bet there are a lot of boaters who don't change it until it fails!! I also bet if you've had one fail you change it religiously after that.
My point is that they are idiots for sure but I'd bet they either don't know any better or just don't think that the consequences are real.
On another note alcoholism is a disease!! If you can't have a good time around your kids without drinking (more than one or two) you have a problem. Even if you only drink on "special occasions" like birthday parties and a day out on the lake, if your getting lit up around your kids on every special occasion the alcohol has clearly got a grip on you.
Sorry to get up on my soap box and get all preachy. I got drunk around my kid a few times when he was too young to know what was going on (less than 2 yo) and realized then that I was putting my thirst for alcohol in front of my obligation to raise my children responsibly. Thanksgiving dinner is not an appropriate reason for your kids to see you drunk.
