Re: Only once
I went on a cruise once and it was pretty rough going across the Gulf of Mexico and about 80% of the cruise was sick in their rooms. Luckily it didn't hit me and my 2 family members and we were able to somewhat enjoy the trip but there was something not so nice looking at the prime rib so I avoided that.
One time in my 18' boat we went fishing off Scituate and a friend brought his girlfriend, she was fine while we were heading out then when we anchored she started turning green and feeding the fish. She was sick the rest of he shortened day but as soon as she set foot on dry land she was fine. She didn't go with us again.
It is true that fumes be they cooking or exhaust can turn ones usually solid stomache. Off Nantucket in a 50' sport fisher in 20' swells. We should not have even tried with a small craft advisory issued. We did turn back. I was fine but one time on the Marthas Vineyard ferry the smell of old chili brewing hit me a little crooked.
I do think seasickness is partially mental and partially eye and ear related. I admire those deadliest catch guys especially in high seas when they are cutting up the bait.
Happy Boating.
