so Im on the water yesterdaywith a full live well of fish I figure after weight in I am in the money show for the weekend So I fire up the boat and rip down the water now I know this lake real well and for the most part it is real deep with ne hazards. At 8omph I hit a big turtle and busted my prop up and it seems caused some damage to my lower unit. The turtle I fugure was a 30lb snapper What I cant figure out is how can a turtle cause that kinda damage the stainless prop is a mess and when I swapped it out the engine just doesnt seem right. The engine isnt the question I have a vew lowerunit being sent and by monday it will be repaired( thanks Sponsor) My question is how can a turtle casue that kinda damage

Uh Oh...<br /><br />I hear PETA knocking on your door!<br /><br />Shame on you for hitting that turtle...<br />With all your high-tech sonar and such, you should have seen that turtle to avoid it. <br /><br />Now I imagine you'll have some kind of environmental agency after you wanting an environmental impact statement, water tests to make sure you didn't leak and fluids in the water and your first born...<br /><br />LOL! (Just joking around...)<br /><br /> <br /><br />I know nothing about turtles, but I would imagine that shell of his was pretty darn hard like a rock. And rocks and engine components like skegs and props don't mingle well with them!<br /><br />H.

If you are going fast enough, Miloman, a marshmallow can take your head off.<br /><br />You were going plenty fast enough.<br /><br />Once had a seagull come through a 1" tempered glass windscreen on approach to Kodiak and dangnear decapitate our copilot. We weren't doing much over 150 at the time.

I once hit a turkey in a 1981 F-100 truck and did over $1800 damage. Nothing left but feathers imbedded in the paint. Guess it's true, speed kills

As the taught us in working wrecks when you hit something If my memory serves me right you times the weight by 3 for every ten miles and hour your are moving.\<br />So in retrospect the turtle was moving along at a slow pace along comes this real fast boat with a very fast rotating thing-ie under the water invading his terartory and struck him.<br />You say your were at about 80 turtle was so slow he was almost at stand still turtle turned into about an 124 pound rock when you connected turtle gave but you gave more.<br /><br /> Milo couldn't help it man had to do this.<br />any did you make it to the weigh in and clim the money <br />am glad you wasn't injured though

made it to the weight in 15 minutes late I roared back at the incredible speed of 2 mph with my troller. It amazes me how a turtle can do so much the worse part was the aftermath with turtle debris floating in the water. in retrospect Im glad I sdidnt mess up my jack plate anyway the motor is in the shop tomm and I think the lower unit is being sent I switched it for as different gear case with the water pu in the nose cone JB it sure is fun though ripping through the water at 80+

WOW MILOMAN! you killed a poor helpless turtle. How did you know it was a turtle? I thought there shells sank? and if you hit it wouldn't you rip right through it, damaging your lower-unit but by the time you slowed down you should of been well away from the rest of the turtle and its body would of sank to the bottom? Or was there turtle parts stuck in your lower unit? and what did it look like do you have any pictures? I just can't see something like this happening at that speed and it not ripping off your lower-unit or damaging the hull? I guess this would be a good advertisement for Evinrude....

Thats incrediable...Not so much that it destroyed your prop but what are the odds of this incedent on the way to weigh in and make the cut. Dont they give an award at the end of the season for the "Hard luck story of the season"...May be a candidate.

I was in the 25'Checkmate the hit a family of ducks, going over 90mph.<br /><br />They tryed to fly away, got a few inchs off the water and WAMMOO.<br /><br />We had blood and feathers all over the bow. It was funny when we pulled up to the dock with all the guts all over the bow <br /><br />I jumped out and said to an older man on the dock "please, help us wash this off before someone see's"

i bet if ya was goin bout 30mph, ya could have dodged the turtle. guess ya pay for the speed. i am fine topping out at 40.
